Created on the initiative of François Beaumont, a passionate swing dancer, with the support of Rock’Caliente, the Rock’n’Boogie Festival was born in 2011 in Aix-en-Provence. It is the beginning of a beautiful story between the festival-goers and the Rock’n’Boogie Festival, under the sign of Rock and Boogie.

So ask those who come back every year, or those for whom this will be the first festival, the watchwords are conviviality and family.

Rock is danced to a wide range of music from different eras. From the unavoidable hits of the 50’s (Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.) to more recent music (Les Forbans, Dany Brillant, Lou Bega, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, etc.) as well as the more jazzy music of the American Big Bands (Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, etc.). The success of Rock’n’Roll totally spread to Europe around 1958 and enchanted the French dancers. Its rhythm, both binary and ternary, will lead to a 6 beat Rock with a more marked step. The “rats” will leave the Parisian cellars to become the rockers.

Boogie Woogie

Boogie-woogie is basically a pianistic way of interpreting the blues. Its success makes it a real musical style in its own right, integrated by big bands. Boogie-woogie (the dance), an evolution of lindy-hop, very quickly integrated the rhythm and the explosiveness of this music of the same name. Above all a dance of interpretation, one is guided by the instruments, the singers, the musicians’ games and one’s own feeling of the music. From very slow to very fast, it is a dynamic dance, rich in footwork, variations and games between partners, where musical interpretation is predominant.

The Rock’n’Boogie Festival

The Rock’n’Boogie Festival is a story of family and passion. A team of volunteers from the Rock’Caliente association, members of the Board of Directors, staff teachers or students of the association, all are passionate about dance.

A long term work carried out throughout the year by the organizing team and an incredible work in the previous months and on D-Day by our 15 volunteers.

Without this team, confidence, and passion for dance, none of this would be possible!
